Peter B. Hardin MD, MS, BS | Speciality: Radiation Oncologist

Beginning first as an engineer, Dr. Hardin graduated with three degrees in engineering, both electrical and biomedical, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before entering medical school.  He pioneered surface coil designs for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment which are currently being used today to save patient’s lives.  He entered medical school to continue to further design medical equipment.  He found however that he could apply his background in engineering to the complexities and challenges of cancer therapy making radiation oncology a demanding specialty for which he is uniquely qualified.

Dr. Hardin graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.  He completed his residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.  During residency, he continued doing research in radiation oncology, becoming published in both text books and journals for breast and lung cancer.  He has been on staff doing teaching and research at Case-Western Reserve University, University of Illinois, and Michigan State University, and worked for a not-for-profit foundation before entering private practice in Kentucky in 2008.

He is board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology, having recertified in 2008.  His clinical experience includes: intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), 3D conformal radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy, coronary brachytherapy, prostate brachytherapy, high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, and the use of various radioisotopes, including I-131 for thyroid cancer.  He is active in ASTRO, ABR, ACRO, ECOG and serves on Taylor Regional Hospital’s cancer committee, radiation safety committee, and tumor board.
